Soggy clothing was considered a small price to pay as students returned with tales of their adventure at the Hautbois Activity Centre. Year 10 students studying BTec Sport at The Nicholas Hamond Academy took part in kayaking on the River Bure learning how to paddle, steer and improve their skills.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed participating in one of the fastest growing sports in the UK.
Building confidence, resilience and the opportunity for new adventures are just some of the reasons that students at The Nicholas Hamond Academy have signed up to the Duke of Edinburgh Programme.
They are currently planning a range of activities in order to complete the Bronze Award over the next six months which include basketball, mountain biking, volunteering at the local library and helping at an animal charity. Students will also plan a two day overnight camping expedition challenging navigational skills, camp craft and promoting teamwork.
Whether climbing the high wire or improving their archery skills, students enjoyed the many exciting activities at Kingswood in Overstrand recently.
The Nicholas Hamond Academy organised the residential trip for Year 9 students to experience challenges demanding problem solving, initiative and teamwork in the grounds of Lutyens Manor House.
All thoroughly enjoyed their stay, returning tired and full of stories of their great adventures!
Students from the The Nicholas Hamond Academy attended the Mayor’s Reception in Swaffham, recently proudly representing the Swaffham Youth Team in the town.
There was no shortage of volunteers to help support the ‘clean-up day’ in Swaffham town centre recently.
Always keen to get involved with activities in the wider community, eight students from The Nicholas Hamond Academy joined forces with the local townspeople in a pledge to keep an area of the town free from litter. Kitted out with high viz vests, gloves, litter picking tools and bin bags students cleared the hedgerows and pavements of rubbish and have promised to repeat this exercise if necessary during the Summer.
