Bats have been spotted flying in some of the labs as students have been exploring aerodynamics and weight vs. lift to see whose specimen can fly the farthest.
There is sure to be some hocus pocus afoot today as students enjoy ‘Halloween themed’ lessons led by ‘mad scientists’, raising the profile of Science within the academy.
We wish all our students an enjoyable Half Term holiday and look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 28th October 2019 (Week B).
Marking World Mental Health Day and in order to help raise awareness, TNHA students had access to a ‘worry box’ where they could write down any worries or concerns they may have about themselves. Questionnaires were also provided encouraging ‘positive daily self-reflection’ and a ‘Coping Toolbox’. Our Year 7 students studied how the brain works and the need to value how each other’s brains work in different ways. Importantly their studies provided them with the tools to be able to identify ways to promote their own emotional wellbeing; who, how and why to ask for support when needed and being a supportive friend.
A visit to Camp Nou, Barcelona Football Stadium with Messi’s interactive room and a walk through the club’s history gave the trip a sporty twist. Students tested their skills with a masterclass in flamenco dancing which resulted in a good night’s sleep for all after expending so much energy. A walk though Las Ramblas which cuts through the heart of the city led on to the famous market of La Boqueria with amazing food on show.
Winding down towards the end of their trip, students had the opportunity to visit the waterfront harbour of Port Vell and the stunning golden coastline of Cap Salou before starting the journey home and returning to a damp wet Swaffham!
Barcelona’s amazing history was on display to our students during their trip. Whist visiting the Gothic Quarter students were able to appreciate the ancient buildings in the once Roman village, along with Gaudi’s architecture at the Parque Guell and Sagrada Familia including his stunning mosaic work. A stop for lunch was thoroughly enjoyed in Parque de Ciutadella with its beautiful paddling fountains in what is the greenest oasis in Barcelona.
Enjoying the local culture our students have visited a Spanish village, the Olympic Stadium and the Museum of Modern Art, also fitting in a cable car ride across the beautiful scenery. They are certainly keen to make the most of their trip!
