Exploring the muddy trenches of the Battlefields helped students from The Nicholas Hamond Academy imagine conditions experienced by allied forces during the First World War. Two students had the honour of laying a wreath as part of the Last Post, a ceremony which has taken place every evening since 1928 at the Menin Gate, Ypres, honouring the courage and self-sacrifice of those who fell in defence of the town. Evidence of the true human cost of the War was seen on the final visit to the Cloth Hall in Ypres and Tyne Cot cemetery (the largest commonwealth military cemetery in the world).
