Our Easter chicks have now been rehomed at the end of our two week programme. They have all gone to established free range homes used to caring for chickens, including a member of staff, a friend of the Academy and a small dairy farm. Whilst the chicks were with us students completed Discimus projects in which they learnt scientific facts and some were inspired to write poetry.
No-one ever thinks about chickens,
especially the ones that aren't fried,
I love the way they cluck so much,
and to fit in - how much they have tried.
I think of them day and night,
even though they can barely fly,
how comical they can be
I cannot lie.
So next time you see a chicken,
be kind and give them space,
for they evolved from dinosaurs,
I know that is hard to embrace.
