The Nicholas Hamond Academy opened in November 2012 and is sponsored by the Academy Transformation Trust (ATT). The sponsor’s vision is for there to be an Outstanding 11-18 school serving the community of Swaffham - the VI Form re-opened in September 2013. All staff transferred from the predecessor school on conversion.
The Nicholas Hamond Academy is a smaller than average sized secondary school with 649 on roll, which includes the 68 students in our open access VI Form. Most students are from white British backgrounds and come from Swaffham and the surrounding rural area. 12%, a small but significant number of students, are from military service families. Due to RAF redeployments, the mobility of the student population is 11% (NA 8%). The proportion of disadvantaged students – 26% - is above average. The proportion of students with SEND is 32% (NA: 14.4%). A very small number of students are from traveller families 1%.
When inspected in February 2012, the OFSTED team put the predecessor school into category, giving it ‘Notice to Improve’. When inspected in May 2014, after the academy had been open 18 months, the school was judged to be Good, with Good post-16 provision.
Academy Transformation Trust
We believe every child matters and deserves a first class education. Our team knows first-hand how to make education better for schools, pupils and their teachers.
For us, the future of UK education relies upon schools working closely together to share best practices, giving every child the best chance in life. We set up ATT to make this vision a reality.
As a not for profit trust, we work with our growing family of primary and secondary academies, and further education providers in the Midlands, East of England and South East.
Our mission is to provide the very best education for all pupils and the highest level of support for our staff to ensure every child leaves our academies with everything they need to reach their full potential.
